Ohio Valley Trail Partners

The Ohio Valley Trail Partners is a volunteer organization that seeks to advocate for trails and other bicycle and pedestrian connections in our Ohio Valley communities.

Our focus is primarily on the usage and maintenance of the Wheeling Heritage Trails.

The Wheeling Heritage Trails are a total of 16 miles of paved, multi-use trails along the Ohio River and Wheeling Creek.

Starting at the city line in South Wheeling, The Ohio River Trail runs continuously for 11 miles north-south along the Ohio River, through Heritage Port in downtown Wheeling, through Warwood, past Pike Island Locks and Dam to the Brooke County Line. At the Brooke County Line, one can continue to travel north on Brooke County’s network of trails.

The Wheeling Creek Trail runs east-west for five miles between Heritage Port in downtown Wheeling, over the Hempfield Viaduct, through the Hempfield Tunnel along Wheeling Creek to Elm Grove.

About Us

Our annual fundraiser event, the Wheeling Heritage Trail Bicycle Tour associated with the Ogden Wellness Weekend, as well as support from our generous sponsors enables us to continue to support trail maintenance as well as trail improvements and long-term trail advocacy projects.

The Ohio Valley Trail Partners work closely with the City of Wheeling, including the City Manager, Parks and Recreation, Operations and Wheeling Police Department to identify immediate maintenance and safety needs.

A strong partnership with our Metropolitan Planning Organization has been established as well as with other regional cycling trails or advocacy groups including WV Trails, Brooke Pioneer Trail Association and the Ohio Valley Trail Committee, to name a few.

Ohio Valley Trail Partners is a 501c3 tax exempt organization. Please join us if you are a cyclist or a person who enjoys trails or if you have a skillset that could benefit the work that we do. Feel free to share any ideas or projects with us.
